The Ozzi Outdoor Chair is one of those products you're slightly annoyed you didn't find sooner. On paper, the specs are impressive. In the field, it actually delivers.
At 1.7kg and packing down to 38cm, roughly the length of a 1.5lt water bottle, it genuinely fits in a daypack alongside your other gear. And most importantly, it's actually comfortable. On more than one occasion during testing, we forgot it was in the bag.
Setup takes about 10 seconds once you've done it a few times. No poles to thread, no clips to hunt for in the dark. The frame is built from aviation-grade aluminium, and it feels like it. There was no flex when a 100kg+ tester sat down hard after a long day. The ripstop nylon didn't sag or stretch through the entire 30 days of use. For people with back conditions, two of our testers have chronic lower back issues. The hammock style recline was the most comfortable chair in the test by a clear margin.
It also happens to come with a lifetime warranty. Not a 12-month warranty. Lifetime.

Has anyone actually purchased an Ozzi Gear chair? Are they actually as good as they seem in this article?
Yes! I bought two about four years ago and absolutely love them. I've since bought two more so now I have four total. Best purchase I've ever made they have never let me down once. I even have photos from every camping trip we've taken them on. They genuinely get better with use. Cannot recommend enough.
What about the Nakie chair? I pre-ordered one of those a month ago and it still hasn't arrived. Getting pretty frustrated at this point. Also it doesn't seem to support you very well?
Same! I pre-ordered the Naked chair and it's been sitting on "processing" for weeks. After reading this article I went and had a look at the Ozzi Gear Chair's and purchased one of each and honestly I just requested a refund on the Nakie.
The ozzi chair is so small, and it cradles my back so well.
The lounger is certainly there for comfort, with upper back, neck and head support, if you're looking for ultimate comfort. I'd highly recommend this.
Has anyone ever had issues with those rocking camp chairs? I see a lot of brands selling them but I never really thought about the mechanics breaking down over time?
Yep. I had one of those rocking camping chairs, great for the first season but like Simon mentioned above, the rocking mechanism starts to creak pretty quickly and after a season or two it's just uncomfortable and embarrassing to sit in. Not worth it. I wouldn't recommend them at all. There's a reason the simple designs last longer.
I had two compact camping chairs before these, cheaper ones, about half the price. They were okay but honestly the comfort just wasn't there and they were a pain to set up. Bought two Ozzi Gear Loungers to replace them and safe to say these things are five-star luxury comfort. Not even exaggerating.
I can 100% back this. I had a Helinox chair for 10 months, average build quality, annoying to set up, and the comfort just wasn't there for long sessions. I recently bought an Ozzi Gear chair AND a lounger last season. The chair's hammock-style seat cradles your back perfectly, you can genuinely sit in it for hours without any discomfort. And the lounger? That's a whole other level, better than any deck chair I've ever owned, and it still packs down small enough to throw in the boot. The fact that it's this comfortable AND this compact still surprises me every time.
Anyone know how heavy these actually are? I do a lot of hiking and weight is everything for me. Don't want to be lugging around a 5kg chair.
The chair is super lightweight. I carry mine in my backpack on day hikes no problem. It's not going to weigh you down at all. The lounger is a bit heavier but still nothing compared to a regular camp chair. Honestly surprised me when I first unpacked it.
These look great but are they worth the price? I've seen cheaper chairs at Anaconda and BCF for like $40. Hard to justify spending more when I only camp a few times a year.
I said the exact same thing before I bought one. I'd gone through two cheap chairs in two seasons. Frames bent, fabric ripped. The Ozzi Gear chair has lasted me three years of hard use without a single issue. When you add up replacing the cheap ones every season it actually works out more expensive. Buy once, cry once as they say.
Agreed. I bought a $45 chair from BCF last summer. The legs buckled on the second trip. Never again.
Does anyone with back problems use these? I have lower back issues and most camp chairs are absolutely terrible for me after about 20 minutes. Kind of given up on the idea of comfortable camping if I'm honest.
Christine this was exactly me. I have chronic lower back pain and had basically written off camp chairs entirely. My husband bought me the Ozzi Gear Lounger last Christmas and I genuinely could not believe the difference. The way it supports your back and lets you recline properly. I sat in it for nearly three hours at a campfire last month and stood up feeling completely fine. Life changing is not an overstatement.
How do these hold up in proper Australian conditions? I'm talking 40 degree heat, dust, UV. Most gear I've bought falls apart after one outback trip.
Mate I've had mine out at Broken Hill, the Flinders Ranges, and two trips up to the Kimberley. Still going strong after three years. The fabric doesn't fade, the frame hasn't bent, nothing has frayed. Built for actual Australian conditions not just weekend glamping.
Quick question. I'm a bigger guy, about 105kg. Are these chairs actually going to hold up or are they one of those things that's fine for average sized people and falls apart for anyone bigger?
My husband is about 110kg and has been using his for two seasons without any issues at all. Feels solid under him, no wobbling or creaking. He was skeptical at first for the same reason but now he won't use anything else at the campsite.
Trying to buy one of these as a birthday gift for my dad. He loves fishing and camping but I have no idea whether to get him the chair or the lounger. Anyone able to help me decide?
Sandra, get the lounger. My dad is exactly the same, loves his fishing trips. I bought him the lounger two birthdays ago and he uses it every single weekend. He says it's the most comfortable thing he's ever sat in outdoors. If your dad is anything like mine he'll never want to get out of it.
The chair is better if he moves around a lot between spots. The lounger if he likes to sit and settle in for long sessions. Sounds like the lounger is your answer.
How does this compare to something like a Helinox or a King Camp chair? I've been looking at those too. Helinox especially seems to get a lot of love online.
I owned a Helinox for two years. Great build but sitting in it for more than an hour was genuinely uncomfortable. Too upright and the seat digs into the backs of your legs. Switched to the Ozzi Gear Lounger and the comfort difference is night and day. The Helinox is impressive engineering but the Ozzi Gear actually lets you relax properly. For the price difference alone it's not even a close call.
